Is it okay to hit you 17 year old teen?

Story about my friend, his step dad grabs him and corners him up against a chair and mom comes behind and slaps him causing scratches and teen kicks her away and she continues and teen punches her to make the mom stop, then step dad punches teen. Isnt it okay to hit your teen if he was being defiant and this was an act of punishment?
