Does anyone know what if the negative impact on voluntary surrender of vehicle?

I had to voluntary surrender my vehicle due to loss of job and other circumstances. My car was sold and actually for more than I owed so I received a check from the lien holder. Does anyone know if it still hits your credit with the same impact, even though the car was paid off?
